हाम्रो परिचय

1. INTRODUCTION:

The District Agriculture Development Office, Kathmandu under the Department of Agriculture has been established with the aim to increase agriculture production and productivity by introducing and dissemination of recommended new technology to the farmers. Diversified ecological condition is the peculiar characteristics of the district for growing different crops as commercial seasonal as well as off seasonal vegetables, mushrooms, bee keepings, fruits, asparagus etc.

 

In Kathamndu District, Agriculture Extension program is implementing as a regular program. This program is focused in twenty three pockets of the district. Programs are directly lunching by DADO. Out of twenty three pockets, six pockets are under vegetables, six organic vegetables, eight cereal seed multiplication & three bee keepings.

 

The agriculture program aims to increase farmers’ income by promoting production and marketing of agriculture crops in potential pockets area. Project activities are based on farmers’ group approach. Hence, individual methods are not enough to cover wide area and number of farmers.

 

2. OBJECTIVES:

2.1 Long term Objectives:

  • To increase the production and productivity of agriculture crops through the introduction of improved agricultural practices.
  • To motivate and assist farmers to adopt appropriate technology on the basis of potentiality and comparative advantages aimed at producing economic product for the improvement of economic condition of the farmers.
  • To encourage diversification and commercialization of agricultural product for the improvement of economic condition of the farmers.
  • To increase the women, Janajati, Dalit, Deprive group participation in the main stream of program planning, implementation and decision making process.

 

2.2 Short term Objectives:

  • To disseminate new technology that has been recommended by research and to provide the technical know how to address the farmers’ problem.
  • To increase the farmers’ attitude to adopted new technology through the use of various tools such as training, tours, workshop, demonstration, competition, improve kits, fair etc.
  • To organize and strengthen the farmers groups as channel for technology dissemination, utilization and develop technical resources center in the future.
  • To coordinate with various agencies to make agriculture program more effective.
  • To help farmers by formulating and implementing need based agricultural program for the best use their available resources.
  • To support the marketing system of the agriculture products to ensure reasonable price of the agriculture products.

 

3. STRATEGIES:

  • All the extension activities will be implemented through farmer Group Approach in order to enable the group towards self-sustainable and develop into a technical resources center.
  • Intensive production program will be lunched in irrigated areas and income generating program in non irrigated areas.
  • Bottom Up Participatory Approach will be adopted in program planning and implementation.
  • District agriculture program will be formulated and implemented by collaborating and coordinating approach with all stakeholders including, I/NGOs, CBOs, etc in order to ensure best utilization of available resources.
  • Agriculture extension activities will be projectized on the basis of potentialities and comparative advantages.
  • Pocket Package Strategy will be adopted in district agriculture planning.
  • Emphasize will be given on commercial production program of seasonal and off seasonal vegetables, organic vegetables, bee keepings, mushrooms, Asparagus, cereals seed production etc.
  • Service coverage will be expanded by increasing number of groups per technician and exploring groups formed by other agencies.
  • Contract out as well as partnership program will be taken as an important tool in program implementation.
  • Emphasis on women participation in agriculture
  • Prioritized programmes for uplifting, Janajati & deprive groups.
  • Promotion of high value crops

4. ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

DADO Kathmandu was established in 2028 BS under ther Department of Agriculture. DADO is located at Chabahil, Kathmandu under the leadership of Senior Agriculture Development Officer (SADO). The organization is structured as;
